It's a blog! What else do you do with a blog, but ramble on about things that you might think are witty and insightful, but the rest of the world find totally mundane!

'Tis the season...

Hey y'all out there,

My first few days at work has gone well. The days just absolutely fly, bouncing from customer to customer. But I'm really enjoying it and slowly getting to know the rest of the crew. I sold my first guitar on Sunday, to a father for his son (who was with him) - the son's first guitar - he's 8!
Ha Ha, we've started another soul on the road to rack and ruin that is rock and roll...
I won't be back in Brisneyland for the festive season, going to hang-out with some other ex-pats down here and luckily I also have Boxing day off too!
Going to be odd not to be up north at this time of year, hanging out with the people I think of as the "family I choose to have". Going to miss all you krazy katz on that day.

Wah,
J.

Hey-Ho, Let's Go!

Woo-hoo, I start work tomorrow! And, yes, I am excited. Well, and a little nervous. The money isn't great, but it's the industry/area I want to be in. But it is on the very bottom rung of that corporate ladder. The only way is up! In case you don't know I will be working for a national musical instrument retailer - selling guitars! Hehehe! (I just hope I can make it work financially, if not i'll make it work!) And hopefully I can make some good contacts as well.
I did the live sound the other week at a venue for two bands and two solo acts. I was ask by Taggs' bf , 'cause one of the bands is his brothers. He did all the plug-in stuff and I ran the desk. T'was a steepish learning curve, but was actually quite alot of fun. And not once did we get any bad squealing feed back! I think I could do pretty well at that, but I'd need to learn a lot more about the compressors and all the other technical stuff first - I just have a good ear for sound and where everything sits and when things sound wrong/bad. So maybe something to look into.

'Til next time,
J.

The shape of things to come...

Hola to the big wide world! The wheels of fate have begun turning. Certain little things are starting to come to fruition. I can see the beginnings of a path in this fetid jungle. I have been offered a job! Yay! I have accepted it, in principle. I have to wait until they send the paperwork through, including the dreaded AWA. So I won't say much more on it until i've read the devil in the detail. But I am excited. This job, if all works out, is one of the main reasons for my relocation to the southern latitudes. The other main reason was to find a new band. As I previously mentioned I have a contact who is possibly looking for a new bass player, due to misgivings about their current bassist. This is, at the moment, has not been stated to their current bass player. They are playing a gig next weekend and i've been invited to come along and meet the rest of the band, a sort of recon mission for both sides. The only problem is I am supposed to be going to the Meredith festival next weekend. Though there is this nagging impulse to ditch the festival and meet with the band. Work before play. The thought that if this is what I want, I have to make a few sacrifices. And this is what I want, I want to play again, I want to create again, I want to be part of something - not part of nothing. My contact (who is a member of the band) made this cryptic comment when we were discussing music and the band and bass players and surprisingly choices in shirts said "All signs point to yes." I have checked out the band's web-site and myspace page, and I like what i've seen and heard. Lots of fun alcohol fuelled balls-to-the-wall dirty rawk n' roll. Now is a time for action.
