And I may do it again...
Yes, I am a slack bastaro! I know I haven't posted for quite a while, but in reality not much has been happening. But that is changing....
The genesis of a new band is beginning. Monkeyboy has been churning out the lyrics, Elvis has decided to become the bass player and "The New Guy" is a very damn good drummer. The first practice/audition was at Elvis' house, so "The New Guy" decided his normal drum kit might be a bit loud....so he brought his electric one! Talk about inspiration for a return to 80's new-wave. I think I ended up channelling the Edge. It is exciting and daunting, a lot more of the music writing duties have been thrust upon me. Sometimes I think I can do it easy, sometimes I have moments of self-doubt. This is probably a good thing though, it will keep me from becoming a pretentious little twat. One of the coolest things though, is we can now just jam out and create new things on the spot. We get a groove going, add few little twists and then the Monkeyboy says "keep going, I'll record it!". And if we're lucky, next week we have the embryo of a new song. Then come the building and arranging - what goes where, how many times do we play this bit, how long do we make it? It's an awesome feeling to be able to create something again, it's very soul restoring.
Now in reference to the title of the post.....
I met a girl a few weeks before Christmas through my brother's girlfriend. I met her again just after New Years for her going away drinks. She has been travelling around Central America for the last couple of months - Mexico, Cuba, El Salvador and I think a couple of others. Anyhoot, I get a call from brother's girlfriend the other week giving me this girl's phone number and telling me that she was back in town. So I call her and we arrange to catch up over coffee and talk about her travels and other things (does that contitute a date?). So we talk, and talk, and talk. And all the time I'm thinking I'm just babbling shit, I was so nervous. But I must have made a reasonably good impression.....
So I'm seeing her again on Monday night. I like her, she is verrrrrrry cool.
The world keeps on turning,
J.
